Break the basic rule! Use 'some' in questions when you offer something or expect 'yes' (Would you like some tea?). Use 'any' in positive sentences when it means 'it doesn't matter which' (Any seat is fine). Also learn that words like 'never', 'hardly' and 'without' behave like negatives and take 'any'.
