Focus on negative modals: mustn't (prohibition) vs don't have to (no obligation) vs needn't (not necessary) vs shouldn't (not advisable) vs can't (impossible). Also practise choosing between should, had better, and must for different levels of urgency, and would rather vs would prefer for expressing preferences.
